- Tin-free steel (TFS), alsoknown as electrolytic chromium-coated steel (ECCS) or chrome-plated steel, is atype of steel sheet or coil that has been coated with a thin layer of chromiumoxide through an electrolytic process, similar to tinplate but without the useof tin. Tin-free steel offers many similar properties to tinplate but with somedifferences due to the absence of tin. Here's a description of tin-free plateand sheets:
